Simple Bench

A friend gave me this piece of 8in by 8in by 34in block of  pine last summer, it sat in the hallway of my apartment for months while I figured out what to do with it. The simplest idea I came up with was to make a bench. It has really nice saw blade marks on the surface and didn’t want to over sand. The piece was found downtown, I’m guessing the wood may have been used as a support beam from a building but not 100% sure. I had to do some light repair work, inserting a few chunks of wood to level off the bottom and trimmed and squared of the ends with a handsaw, followed by a light sanding.  I decided against finishing with varnishes, the natural raw look looks good against the Ikea screw on legs. It’s been really useful as a footrest and for extra seating.
