Outdoor Teak Furniture Refinishing

Springtime for Willers Furniture.

Finished working on this this outdoor teak set. The set had been refinshed previously but the finish had flaked away over time. The trouble with finishing outdoor furniture is that the elements and uv light will always breakdown a film finish. A film finish like spar varnish is built up in layers and provides some protection. I recommend just leaving teak or cedar natural, and teak will get a really nice silver patina after a year or so outdoors. Teak naturally contains oils which inhibit decay, so coating with an oil based outdoor product is not worth doing unless you don’t mind doing it every spring.
